Stanley Yelnats

Finishing the book“The Hole” by Louis Sachar, I really admire Stanley Yenalts, the main character of the story.Being a boy who always has bad lucks but Stanley always tries to remain hopeful and always look on the good side of things.I wonder, if I were in such a tough life as him, could I ever have such a mind full of hopefulness and humour like him?
Stanley and Zero’s journey to the Big Thump Mountain is so hard. They have to struggle against a harsh climate of the desert as well as their deadly thrist and hunger.Stanley doesn’t give up, he tries to dig up onions for them to eat and even dare to drink some muddy looking liquid, just for surviving! In such a bad situation, but Stanley alwayst tries to make jokes to encourage Zero, who is so weak and looks sick. When eating onions and drink muddy water, he tells Zero imagine that they were in an Italian restaurant enjoying a hot and delicious peperonni pizza and a large jar of cold beer. This funny idea really works, they both feels better. When Zero seems to collapse because of exhauting, Stanley teaches him some funny words toread in order to help him to ease the bad feelings. As they get higher to the mountain, the weeds gets thicker. Many has thorns, but they still keep going and going.Althought Stanley feels deadly tired, but he doesn’t stop and rest because he is afraid that he ‘ll never get started again .He thinks that as long as Zero could keep going, he could keep going, too. When Zero is too weak and can not walk anymore, instead of giving up, Stanley tries to carry Zero to reach the top of the mountain. They survive on onions for more than a week and then Stanley decides to return to camp, taking a risk to search for his great great great grand father‘s treasure.
I realize that all the bad lucks or unfair things that fate brings to Stanley can not beat him down. But on the contrary, they make him even stronger, physically and emotionally.Just as his father continually hopes for an invention, Stanley always shows hopes and never give up ,no matter how wrong things are going! This strong optimism truly helps Stanley to survive when facing to lots of  meanness and cruelty that fate had brought to his life!
On our way of life, there will be a time …
“When things go wrong, as they sometimes will
When the road you’re trudging seems all uphill
                                                             Remember …
…Rest if you must, but don’t you quit
You are all you can be
Go on and be it!”
